On the Influence Matters podcast with Clara Rose, we had a good discussion on sustainability and decarbonizing and how we can do something now. My mantra is, "Why sit on our hands and wait for the future when we can use technologies that are available today that make a significant impact and pay for themselves many times over?" Link

In this episode of the Well Aware Podcast, Conrad Ruiz speaks with Brian Livingston of Zelkam, a veteran chemical engineer and former Caterpillar diesel engine leader. Brian shares how this catalyst device, filled with rare earth metals, installs in diesel fuel systems to improve combustion—delivering about 5–7% fuel savings while reducing CO₂, NOx, carbon monoxide, and soot. They also discuss the business impact, noting that a 1,000-truck fleet could save around $2.8 million per year and cut about 8,000 tons of CO₂, with roughly a 12-month payback. Brian also addresses market skepticism around fuel-saving technologies and highlights tools on decarbonize5.com and a referral-based approach to increase adoption. Link

Brian explains the science behind the technology, how it breaks diesel molecules into shorter chains for cleaner combustion, and why the solution can improve fuel efficiency by roughly 5–7%. The conversation dives deep into sustainable energy, the future of electric vehicles, the role of government subsidies, and the realities of global energy transitions. It’s a candid discussion about innovation, free markets, engineering, and the messy but fascinating path from corporate career to startup entrepreneurship. He asks, ““Most people think sustainability is something that will happen 25 years from now. My message is: what can we do today?” Link

ROI to Decarbonization - The Materials Business Podcast. Monica Hernandez and myself have a good discussion about decarbonizing with a very high ROI. (100% - 400%). We also discuss the state of decarbonization options that are out there today. She's a metallurgist, so we also get into a little bit of chemistry! Link
From the Steve Setka show: In a world where technology and values often clash, Brian Livingston's journey from chemical engineering to decarbonizing the trucking industry offers a refreshing perspective. In the latest episode, he discusses how his faith and professional expertise intersect to deliver impact. Link

Press Release

Press Release by Borusan, January 30, 2025 Istanbul, Türkiye
Borusan Port reduces fuel consumption and emissions above expectations with Zelkam partnership
Borusan Port, with its commitment to sustainable operations and environmental management, has successfully implemented a fuel and emission reduction project by collaborating with Zelkam. With this innovative project, fuel consumption and carbon emissions were reduced above expectations in a short time.
Borusan Port has taken an important step towards achieving its sustainability goals and achieved significant results in fuel consumption and emission reduction thanks to its partnership with Zelkam. Zelkam, a technology company focused on improving the performance of diesel engines, offers solutions specifically to reduce fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions. The solution offered by Zelkam was an innovative project implemented in the port's diesel-powered heavy construction equipment. It not only reduced the carbon footprint but also provided cost savings. With a 3-5% reduction in diesel use across the optimized machinery fleet, there has been an impressive 10-15% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Borusan Port has once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental management and sustainable operations with this project. As part of the collaboration with Zelkam, a leading supplier of advanced catalyst technologies, fuel catalyst devices were installed on 30 diesel-powered heavy-duty machines at the port. These devices optimized fuel consumption and significantly reduced CO2 emissions.
Erçelik; “We minimize our environmental impact through innovation and partnerships”
Borusan Port General Manager Hamdi Erçelik provided the following information about the project: “As Borusan Port, we adopt Borusan Group’s sustainability vision focused on climate, people and innovation, and aim to minimize our environmental, social and economic impacts at every stage of our activities. Sustainability at Borusan Port is not just a goal, it is the fundamental principle that guides our operations. The project is also an indicator of our ability to leverage innovation and strategic partnerships to overcome critical environmental challenges. In this sense, Zelkam’s expertise and technology, with whom we worked together on the project, played a critical role in helping us achieve these extraordinary results in terms of reduced fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions.”
Brian Livingston, President of Zelkam, said “We are honored to work with Borusan Port on their mission to advance sustainable industrial practices. The measurable results of this project demonstrate again the effectiveness of this technology in providing significant environmental and economic benefits. We look forward to helping many others achieve similar results.”
